Broadway Elementary School (K-6) launched a Mandarin Immersion Program in Fall 2010 with two classes of kindergarten students. LAUSD Principal, Susan Wang, and a group of interested parents have been working together since Fall of 2009 to make this happen. The program is designed so that students achieve academic proficiency in both English and Mandarin and become bilingual, bicultural and biliterate.
Mission Statement
To support the educational needs of Broadway Elementary School through fundraising while building a strong community.
What is “Friends of Broadway”?
“Friends of Broadway” is a parent-run, non-profit organization that raises money to support Broadway Elementary school instruction and student activities. All parents/guardians of Broadway students are members of Friends of Broadway.
Why does “Friends of Broadway” have to be an non-profit organization?
By becoming a non-profit organization, Friends of Broadway can receive donations and grants from corporations, businesses, and private donors that we aren’t able to accept otherwise. Friends of Broadway can also setup fundraising partnerships with various companies.
Why do we need to raise money for the school?
Budget cuts are real; more are ahead. the money that “Friends of Broadway” raises will help protect teaching jobs, field trips, the computer literacy program, psychomotor instruction, test preparation materials and many other things.
How much money do we need to raise for the school?
As much as we can! Currently, Principal Wang has a wish list with approximately $52K needed to support the educational needs of the school. With more budget cuts ahead, we need to raise as much money as we can to help supplement what LAUSD can no longer offer.
How can I participate?
There are many ways for you to get involved. You can participate in Friends of Broadway fundraising events, donate money to Friends of Broadway, volunteer your time, utilize your talents to help organize events, use your social network to build corporate sponsorship and more.
How can I get informed?
Friends of Broadway “Parent Meeting” is held ONCE a month. There are also flyers with fundraising events distributed in your child’s backpack. You can also talk to any of the board members.
What is “Friends of Broadway” Board?
The Friends of Broadway board currently consists of 12 members who are elected by Broadway parents every year in May. The board positions are President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Fundraisers and Committee Coordinators. Board members are responsible for the operation of the organization.
